Sister Lois Dunn, RSM

DUNN, Sister Lois, formerly Sister Mary Fredella, 84, and a Sister of Mercy for 66 years, died Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Mount St. Rita Health Centre. 

Born in Fall River, MA, Sister was the daughter of the late Frederick and Theresa (Allen) Dunn.  Her siblings, Frederick Dunn (2000) and Phyllis (Dunn) Clark (1992), predeceased her.  In addition to the Sisters of Mercy, Sister is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Robert Wheeler of NY, as well as her nieces and nephews.

During her years in active ministry, Sister served in the Dioceses of Fall River and Providence.  She was an educator and administrator in numerous diocesan elementary schools.  Following her term as principal at Bishop McVinney Regional School, Sister co-founded Focus, a family service agency that was innovative at the time, offering onsite child care while providing adult education.

In 2014, Sister moved to Mount St. Rita where she continued her ministry of prayer and presence while receiving medical and spiritual care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017 at St. John Vianney Parish, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland.  Visitation hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with a Mercy Prayer Service at 10:40 a.m.  Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sisters of Mercy, 15 Highland View Road, Cumberland, RI 02864 or Mount St. Rita Health Centre, 15 Sumner Brown Road, Cumberland, RI 02864 will be appreciated.  Information and condolences please visit: www.galloglyfuneralhome.com
