Germaine M. "Gerry" (Gareau) Belanger

April 2, 1921 ~ April 23, 2019 (age 98)

BELANGER, Germaine M. (Gareau), 98, of Elmdale Avenue, Warwick, passed away Tuesday morning, April 23, 2019 at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph G.E. Belanger.  Born in West Warwick, she was a daughter of the late Stanislaus and Elizabeth Ellen (McShane) Gareau.  She was a resident of West Warwick for most of her life until moving to Warwick twenty-two years ago.

“Gerry” as she was known to friends grew up in West Warwick and worked as a civil servant in Seattle during the war. Her husband Ed was in the Navy stationed there on a tanker in the Pacific, which is where they married amongst their Navy friends. They settled in Warwick where Gerry and Ed raised their own family. She moved back to West Warwick again for a few years and later in life moved in with her daughter Jeanne and Lou in Warwick. She was a cancer survivor at age 35 and lived a full and happy life.

Mrs. Belanger loved taking care of her family and entertaining at her home.  Her greatest joys included, cooking, traveling, playing cards with her friends, day trips to the casinos and knitting afghans for her family and friends. Gerry (Nana) was adored by her grandchildren and great grandchildren who she especially enjoyed spending time with. She was always interested in learning and hearing chatting with others about their lives. Her desire to help others never waned! She especially loved theater and hearing about The Arctic Playhouse.

She is survived by a daughter, Jeanne E. Lessard and her husband Louis with whom she lived; a son, James E. Belanger and his wife Deborah of Coventry; nine grandchildren, Tracy, Louie, Joseph, Matthew, Aimee, Laurie, Richard, Julie and Terez; twelve great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter.  She was the mother of the late Judith Ann Belanger and sister of the late Clement Gareau, Theresa Dauphinais, Alberic J. Gareau and Norman Gareau.
