Sister Mary Michaeleen Hamilton, RSM

Hamilton, Sister Mary Michaeleen, 85, a Sister of Mercy for 67 years, died on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Mount St. Rita Health Centre, Cumberland.  She was the daughter of the late Michael and Jane (Byrne) Hamilton.  Sister was the sibling of the late Rev. James Hamilton, beloved brother and dear friend.

Sister Michaeleen entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1948 and professed vows in 1951.  She was an exemplary educator and great inspiration to many young women whom she sponsored in religious life.

Sister began her teaching ministry at St. Joseph Parish School in Pawtucket and continued as Latin Teacher for many years at St. Xavier Academy and then at St. Mary Academy, Bay View.  In addition to her life-time certification as a secondary teacher of Latin, Sister received many outstanding awards in recognition of her mastery of the language.

Visitation will be held at St. John Vianney Parish, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am with a Mercy Prayer Service at 10:40 am.  A liturgy of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am.  Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Sister’s memory may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 15 Highland View Road, Cumberland, RI 02864 or to Mount St. Rita Health Centre, 15 Sumner Brown Road, Cumberland, RI.  Information and condolences please visit: www.galloglyfuneralhome.com
