Sister M. Eleanora Crook, RSMAugust 17, 1924 ~ June 30, 2017 (age 92)
Crook, Sister Mary Eleanora, 92, a Sister of Mercy, died on June 30, 2017 at Mount Saint Rita Health Centre. Born in Slatersville, RI she was the daughter of the late James and Etta Meade Crook. A graduate of St Xavier Academy, Sister entered the Sisters of Mercy on September 8, 1942 and professed final vows in 1948.
Sister’s teaching ministry began at Tyler School in Providence and continued in both the Providence and Fall River dioceses until 1986 when she served at the administrative offices of the Sisters of Mercy in Cumberland. Sister was a gifted musician who shared her talents both within and beyond the classroom.
Though very serious about her faith and her ministries, Sister Eleanora never missed an opportunity to share in conversation and to enjoy a good laugh. Most recently, as a patient at Mount St Rita, she found comfort in her music and her faith and the attention provided by staff and Mercy community members as well as her family.
In addition to her religious community, Sister Eleanora is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Her brothers, James and John Crook and her sisters, Elizabeth Crook and Eleanor Guerin predeceased her.
