Sister Joeline Teixeira, RSM

Teixeira, Sister Mary Joeline, a member of the Sisters of Mercy, died on February 15, 2017.

Born in Providence in 1929, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Medeiros) Teixeira, Sister entered the Sisters of Mercy Community in 1947.  For the past 70 years, Sister Mary Joeline has shared her faith, talents, and all-inclusive love as teacher, administrator and pastoral minister.

Sister taught in parish schools in New Bedford, Fall River and North Attleboro before being missioned to St. Mary Parish in Warren.  Thus began her introduction to the East Bay, especially Warren and Bristol.

While at St. Mary of the Bay in Warren, Sister was the Religious Education Coordinator and Pastoral Assistant for numerous years.  Sister then moved to Bristol where for 25 years she continued her pastoral ministry to those in hospitals and nursing facilities.  Sister Joeline was a lover of people, a woman of faith, and exuded an endless supply of energy and enthusiasm.

Her love for and connection to her family knew no bounds.  Pre-deceased by two brothers, Joseph and David Teixeira, and one sister, Margaret Wagner, she is survived by her sister, Mary Evelyn Almeida, many loving nieces and nephews – grand and great.  Sister Mary Joeline was loved by members of the Mercy Community, especially by her dear friend, Sister Mary Edwin English with whom she co-ministered and shared community for over 50 years.

Sister’s wake and funeral will take place at St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main Street, Warren, RI on Tuesday, February 21, 2017.  A wake service will be held from 9:00 am to 10:30 am followed by a Mercy Prayer Service.  A liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am followed by a collation in the church hall.  Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
