Philip T. O'Connell

O’CONNELL, Philip T., 93, of West Warwick, passed away Tuesday morning, June 14, 2016 at West View Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, West Warwick.

He was the husband of Claire L. (Proulx) O’Connell, they had been married for 67 years.  A lifelong resident of West Warwick, he was the son of the late Howard G. O’Connell and Alexandria B. (Kulasewski) O’Connell-Mitchell.

Mr. O’Connell was a carpenter/linesman at General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division in Groton for 28 years before retiring in 1986.  He was a WW II Army Veteran where he participated in D-Day in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge, a communicant of St. Mary Church and was one of the featured Veterans of the documentary, D-Day + 62.

Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Sherry A. Jimenez and her husband Dr. Armando Jimenez of Tiverton and Lorie O. Levesque of Warwick; seven grandchildren, Todd, Jason and Shane Ayotte, Ryan and Sarah Jimenez and Evan and Alexa Levesque and six great grandchildren.  He was the brother of the late Eugene O’Connell, Colleen Knowles and Frances Grimes-Foley.   

His funeral will be held Friday, June 17, 2016 at 9 am from the HENAULT-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 5 Eddy St., West Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in St. Mary Church, Church St., West Warwick.  Interment will follow with military honors in the parish cemetery.  Visiting hours Thursday 4-7 pm.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O.
