Welcome to the memorial page for

Martha (Magauran) Lysik

April 26, 1973 ~ December 29, 2016 (age 43) 43 Years Old

Martha (Magauran) Lysik, 43, of Block Island, RI, wife of Richard Lysik and mother of Kathleen and Seamus Hemingway, daughter of Muriel (Dignam) Magauran of Enfield, CT and the late Dr. Brendan Magauran, died suddenly and unexpectedly  December 29, 2016. She was born at home in Hazardville, CT on April 26, 1973.

Martha attended Enfield Montessori School and St. Bernard's School in Enfield, CT. She attended Kylemore Abby in Connemara, Galway, Ireland, and graduated from Fermi High School in Enfield, CT.  She also attended Salva Regina College in Newport, RI.

Martha was a strong athlete, loved ice hockey, played with the Polar Bears and played with a men's team in Syracuse, NY. She was a national champion and played in  Europe. She also was an excellent soccer player.

She worked on a beautiful small island off the coast of RI, called Block Island, for multiple summers before eventually settling there at the age of 24 with her husband Paul Hemingway and raising their two children Kathleen 19, and Seamus, 14. In 2012 she married Rick Lysik and helped raise his daughter Ella Lysik. Her time on the island was with an unmatched amount of generosity, understanding and a genuine kindness which she gave to everyone. As a member of the Block Island Rescue Squad, she served as an EMT, and for the past two years, was Captain. Martha was also involved in the Ladies Auxiliary for a time, helping to annually deliver baskets to the older citizens of BI. She taught CCD for the St. Andrew's Catholic Church for several years as well.

Most recently she and and Rick co-owned and managed Club Soda on Block Island. It was here that customers who found an open seat would also find an open ear and a welcoming smile. At the same time, there were many that left, heads down in defeat, from pool tournaments that she would quietly enter and sweep. Her untimely death is a great loss to the community and one that will last for years to come.

Besides her husband, three children and mother, she leaves six brothers, Dr. Brendan Magauran, Jr. and his wife Dr. Ellen Hilsinger of Lexington, MA, Dr. John Magauran of Honolulu, HI, Thomas and Elizabeth Magauran of Marion, MA, Dr. Raymond Magauran and his wife Dr. Kathleen Kerrigan of Longmeadow, MA, Atty Edward Magauran and his wife Mika of Honolulu, HI, and Dr. James Magauran of Newton, MA.

She also leaves five sisters, Muriel Benton and her husband Dr. Brian Benton of Lisbon, CT, Dr. Nancy Magauran of Newburyport, MA, Dr. Mary Magauran and her husband Jack Smith of Andover, MA, Dr. Maureen Magauran and her husband Dr. Patrick Hanks of N. Andover, MA, and Dr. Claire Magauran and her husband Dr. Puncho Gurung of E. Longmeadow, MA.

In addition to her eleven siblings, Martha leaves twenty-two nieces and nephews.
