Loretta was a dear friend and mentor while I attended Providence College in the 70's. Loretta was also our faculty advisor for the Fine Arts Committee. She was generous, kind and always had a moment to assist in guidance. Loretta was also fearless. I remember that she invited a number of us to her home to celebrate an early Thanksgiving celebration- her mother who had passed on had left detailed instructions on how to nativigate in the kitchen and how to prepare food for Loretta was not at all comfortable in preparing food without her Mother's detailed guide. Somehow in the instructions the oven wasnt set correctly or perhaps the bird wasnt in the oven for the correct amount of time-Loretta has taken it out and put it proudly on a beautifully decorated platter and then onto her gorgeously set dining room table- but the bird was as raw as you cant imagine-- we ate all the sides and laugh a lot- the bird went back into the oven and we ordered pizza instead--it was such a fun evening with such a lovely lady! I am sad that I didn't realize that Loretta wouldn't live forever...but her kindnesses and her spirit lives with me everyday! with deep gratitude and sympathy for her family.
